I have been in the foodservice industry since 1974 when I began my own concession stand as a FFA Agri-Business project. This successful start led to a degree from Purdue University in Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional management. I have worked in healthcare since 1981 throughout the Midwest including Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Kankakee (IL), Kansas City, Omaha, Peoria, for organizations ranging from small stand alone to system-wide facilities. I have also been responsible for multiple departments which included; Environmental Services, Laundry, Sterilization, Grounds, Central Supply, Fleet Management, Transportation – both patient and physicians. I also served on the Premier Group Purchasing Food Committee from 1996 to 1999.
Statement of Priorities
My priorities will include succession planning and management training. Work with colleges and universities to promote Healthcare as an area in which they should be encouraging students to study and pursue careers. I have realized that colleges/culinary schools know very little about our industry and do not encourage students to seek careers in our field. I hope to establish a relationship with institutions and invite them to attend AHF Networking meetings and our annual conference. I will encourage colleges/culinary schools to utilize our speaker's bureau and other resources to get the word out about the opportunities in healthcare.
Present participation with AHF is though attending local Indiana AHF events and serving on the national AHF Education Committee. Our facility also utilizes numerous AHF resources such as; Benchmarking, Find a Member, Report to Administration, Successful Operators Guide and S.O. Connected magazine.
